Long before Cranes of Care was founded, Mrs. Agarwal held a deep-rooted dream: to find a meaningful way to serve her community and bring comfort to those who needed it most. From the time her son, Akshat, was young, she instilled these same values in him, continually encouraging him to care for the elderly, the ill, and the vulnerable.
It was this shared foundation of empathy—combined with a lifetime of unimaginable personal hardship—that ultimately shaped their life’s work.
Over the years, the Agarwal family endured trials that tested their strength to the limit. Mrs. Agarwal suffered the devastating loss of her brother, followed later by the heartbreak of losing both of her parents in the exact same week.
Her family’s resilience was tested once more right before Akshat’s senior year of high school, when his father suffered a severe stroke that resulted in a grueling two-month hospitalization. Throughout every crisis, Mrs. Agarwal was also fighting a silent, relentless daily battle of her own with fibromyalgia and severe chronic pain.
Witnessing his mother’s struggles firsthand gave Akshat a deep understanding of health hardships and emotional isolation from an early age. Guided by his mother's encouragement, Akshat channeled that empathy into action by becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Working directly with elderly residents, Akshat saw the reality of senior care: while physical needs were being met, so many residents quietly suffered from profound loneliness. They lacked the steady presence of family and simple human connection.
Seeking an outlet to process his family’s grief and bring comfort to those around him, Akshat turned to a hobby he had loved since childhood: origami. Hand-folding paper cranes—a traditional symbol of hope, peace, and healing—became his way of delivering small, tangible tokens of love to those who felt forgotten.
This powerful convergence of a mother’s lifelong vision, a family's resilience through loss, frontline clinical experience, and a simple paper craft led to the official founding of Cranes of Care on August 6th, 2025.
By turning deep personal trial into collective purpose, the Agarwal family continues to bring dignity, warmth, and light to the elderly community—one connection, one heart, and one fold at a time.
